There are many benefits of doing push ups. Push ups have been a staple for many years now. You see them in military boot camps, martial arts gyms, and high school football workouts, just to name a few. This is for good reason. Push ups, work most of your muscles, they are simple and cost free, and can be done just about anywhere. Believe it or not, one of the benefits of push ups is the stretch to your biceps and back. You actually stretch your back muscles as you lower your body to the floor. When you raise your body back up, you are stretching your biceps. This movement provides enhanced flexibility of these muscles.
You can use push ups as part of a weight loss regime. As I stated before, a push up involves most of your muscles. This means that your heart has to work harder. This exercise improves your cardiovascular function over time and burns fat. Doing this type of exercise on a regular basis will improve your health which means that you will live a better and longer life.
A Convenient Exercise
One thing is for sure, the push up is a convenient exercise. It can be done in any room in the home, back porch, office, backyard, beach, just about anywhere. There are no trips to the gym, and certainly less excuses for not doing them.

In addition, there are many variations that can be done on the push up to create a full workout regime. Remember I have spoken twice now about the benefit of involving most of your muscles in the push up. There is a further benefit. By involving a large number of muscles, you increase HGH or human growth hormone. This is an important factor since the increase of HGH results in muscle growth.
Good for Your Sex Life
Push ups are a resistance exercise. According to a recent article in LiveStrong by Henry Halse (Push-Ups’ Effect on Testosterone) While it won’t cure the effects of low testosterone, resistance exercise does cause an increase in testosterone levels. In that same article, Halse addresses the effects of low testosterone. He cites a 2002 study in the World Journal of Urology to explain that low testosterone can cause osteoporosis, loss of sex drive and even metabolic problems like diabetes and obesity in men and loss of sex drive and fatigue in women.
Protects You from Injury
Push ups involve the rotator cuff. The push up involves the muscles around the rotator cuff that provide stabilization. Thus, the push up is a very good way of protecting the rotator cuff, which is an area that is common for injury in older adults. Further, as I mentioned earlier, the push up also involves the back muscles. By strengthening these muscles, you protect them from injury.
