How much exercise do we need now that many of us are working from home. It is obvious than sitting at a desk all day is not good for our health. Now many more people are working from home. This means that they are spending the entire day sitting. Therefore you might simply ask how much exercise do we need to counteract the inactivity of sitting at a desk?
How Much Exercise Answered
A recent study in the Lancet shines some light on the impact of exercise on sitting. The results are based on a sample of about 1 million adults, 45 and older, from the United States, Western Europe and Australia. The researchers were able to answer the question of how much exercise is enough. The researchers found a significant reduction of risk of death from heart disease, diabetes and some cancers.
The Lancet study recommends that if you sit for 4 hours a day you should get 30 minutes of moderate exercise. If you sit for 8 hours a day, they recommend 60 minutes a day. This is the key to counteracting long hours of sitting.
It is not just how much exercise we need, but what kind of exercise. It can be as simple as walking at a moderate to fast pace, doing high intensity training or if you are just not able to get to the gym and don’t have the discipline, you might want to consider online training.
You can schedule online training to occur on your lunch break at home or before or after work. In other words, it is much more flexible than going to a gym. Believe it or not, you can have the benefits of a gym right in your living room.
Above all, recognize that some exercise, is better than no exercise. The most important point is to START somewhere!
