Free Beginner Workout Plans You Can Do at Home

These 10 beginner workouts are designed by Irina Marchenkova, ISSA Master Trainer, for adults over 40 who want to start exercising at home. Every plan uses your own body weight or simple household items, takes 20 to 35 minutes, and can be made easier or harder as you go.

Choose a weight loss plan to raise your heart rate and burn more energy, or a muscle toning plan to build strength, firm up and protect your joints. For the best results, combine both through the week.

Before you start: check with your doctor before beginning a new exercise program, especially if you have heart or blood pressure concerns, diabetes, a joint replacement, osteoporosis or a recent injury. Move at a pace where you can still talk in short sentences. Stop if you feel chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath that does not settle, or sharp joint pain. Keep water nearby and wear supportive shoes.
